Energy Saving Tips
Energy Saving Tips
Small changes can make a big impact. Below are just a few measures you can take to help conserve energy in your home.
  • Set your home thermostat as low as comfortable when the house is occupied.

  • Plug and seal any unused chimney flues. This will prevent heat from escaping.

  • Install a programmable thermostat in your home that will adjust the temperature according to your lifestyle and daily schedule.

  • Clean or replace furnace filters once a month. Clean filters will help those with allergies AND help maintain your systems efficiency.

  • Perform annual maintenance on your heating equipment. Inefficient equipment can increase energy consumption as much as 10-15%.

  • Replace aging furnaces and boilers with energy efficient models. Older equipment can be up to 40% less efficient than modern units.

  • Have your ductwork and other heating system components inspected for cracks, leaks and blockages that could be allowing heat to escape.

  • Wrap your hot water heater with an insulated tank blanket and insulate exposed hot water pipes to prevent heat loss.

  • Lower the thermostat on your water heater; water heaters sometimes come from the factory with high temperature settings, but a setting of 120°F provides comfortable hot water for most uses.
