National Fix a
Leak Week
Did you know this week is National Fix a Leak Week?

Nationwide, more than 1 trillion gallons of water leak from U.S. homes each year. That's equivalent to the annual water use of Los Angeles, Chicago, and Miami combined!

To promote water conservation, the EPA's WaterSense partnership program is asking consumers around the nation to stop wasting water and pledge to check their plumbing for leaks, drips, and other forms of unnecessary water waste.

By pledging to correct household leaks, homeowners will not only be preserving a precious resource, but also saving more than 10 percent on water bills.

What can you do to prevent against water waste?
  • Check all of your faucets for leaks and drips -- those little drops add up! A showerhead leaking at 10 drips per minute wastes more than 500 gallons per year. That's enough water to wash 60 loads of dishes in your dishwasher.

  • Fix runny toilets. Constantly running toilets can waste upwards of 200 gallons of water per day!

  • Install WaterSense labeled products in your home.  These products are 20-30% more water efficient than their counterparts.
